Primary Purpose:
Provide quality leadership and administrative direction to all school staff with the purpose of enhancing their ability to prepare students for success in college, careers and civic life.
Essential Duties:
1. Supports the beliefs, mission, and direction of the Dalton Public Schools Board of Education 2. Models the role of a leader of leaders 3. Models the role of the lead learner in a community of learners 4. Focuses on the teaching and learning needs of all staff and students 5. Disaggregates data and works with staff teams to define school-wide goals and performance indicators of quality work with identified priorities for improvement of teaching and learning to increase student performance 6. Works with and leads instructional staff to ensure that interesting, challenging, and satisfying work is designed and provided to all students 7. Works with instructional staff in developing professional goals and increased effectiveness 8. Works with staff to plan professional learning opportunities based on needs of students and staff capacity 9. Participates with teachers to analyze assessment results for the purpose of improving student performance 10. Works with staff to develop a comprehensive School Improvement Plan 11. Demonstrates knowledge of current research in teaching and learning 12. Works with staff to plan a comprehensive school-level induction program for new staff 13. Works with staff to build a school environment that is caring and welcoming to staff and students 14. Builds participatory structure for staff and students to participate in decision-making
15. Works with other secondary administrators for student success in academics and extracurricular activities for all 6-12 students 16. Supports structures that promote collaboration 17. Contributes to the efforts of the District Administrative Team and special project teams that support the mission and vision of Dalton Public Schools 18. Supports local Board of Education policies and procedures 19. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent

The ability to work through sensitive issues and challenges that contributes to understanding and growth on the part of all stakeholders 6. A thorough understanding of teaching, learning and assessment, based upon significant classroom teaching experience 7. Ability to model the use of technology as an integrated tool in administration and instruction 8. Ability to build teams to accomplish common goals 9. Knowledge of current state regulations and guidelines for instructional practices in 6-8 10. Understanding of planning and allocation of resources relating to people, finances, space, technology and time
Qualifications:
The minimum qualification for this position is possession of, or eligibility for, a leadership certificate as required by the state of Georgia.
1. 5 years experience as a classroom teacher 2. 3 years experience as an assistant principal
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a principal
Position Placement:
This position works a 12-month, 225-day calendar Salary based on administrative salary schedule
