Job purpose:
The person assigned the duties of ESS Paraprofessional will be responsible for working with students who require intensive, specially-designed instruction in a small group, general curriculum setting. The ESS Paraprofessional will support the classroom teacher in establishing a positive learning environment and promoting maximum student independence in all assigned tasks. Strong technical and computer skills are preferred, in addition to effective communication skills, and an appreciation for collaborative communication and learning. Implementing behavior plans and communication supports will be required. Supporting students with personal hygiene needs, as well as helping to move students in and out of adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, may be necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supports the implementation of specially designed general curriculum content in reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies, at the direction of a certified teacher. 2. Collaborates with teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents to support student progress. 3. Completes special education documentation and classroom record-keeping, at the direction of the ESS Teacher, according to DPS local procedures. 4. Supports student performance in the classrooms and in school-wide activities, as assigned. 5. Implements individualized communication systems for students who require them. 6. Implements behavior intervention plan for students who require them. 7. Implements medical plans and toileting protocols when necessary. 8. Pursues professional learning opportunities to build professional expertise. 9. Maintains confidentiality regarding students with disabilities. 10. Supports students’ personal hygiene needs and moves students in and out of adaptive equipment (such as wheelchairs), when necessary. 11. Strong technical and computer skills are preferred.
Qualifications:
Associates degree or higher; or at least sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education; official transcript required to validate education; ability to effectively attend to the needs of high school aged students/small groups in the classroom under the direction of a classroom teacher and school administration.

This position works 186 days, 7.5 hours daily
