Job purpose:

The Preschool Exceptional Student Services Teacher will design and implement specially designed preschool instruction for students with disabilities ages 3-5. The Preschool Exceptional Student Services Teacher will manage an IEP caseload and collaborate with professionals (such as Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational and Physical Therapists, Behavior Specialist, and Learning Specialist) to ensure students’ IEP-driven needs are met.   

 

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Specially designs developmental instruction using district and school resources (Unique Learning Systems, ABLLS-R, communication systems, de-escalation and behavior techniques) to provide a specially designed preschool experience for students while addressing their development needs.
2. Collaborates with administrators, teachers, therapists, support staff, and parents to support student progress.
3. Directs the activities of the ESS Paraprofessional(s) to support IEP goal mastery and each student’s access to preschool instruction.
4. Understands and provides/directs the physical and hygiene supports necessary for students to effectively to participate in school activities.
5. Understands and provides support moving students in and out of adaptive equipment, such as wheelchairs, adaptive chairs, walkers, and standers.
6. Complies with IDEA and state special education rules pertaining to timelines, procedures, and guidelines for IEP development.
7. Facilitates IEP meetings at the direction of the administrator.
8. Completes special education documentation according to Dalton Public Schools local procedures.
9. Pursues professional learning opportunities to build professional expertise.
10. Maintains student records, including special education records, confidential records, records of services provided, and behavioral data.
11. Pursues new developments in areas pertaining to special education techniques, or as directed by a supervisor.
12. Participates in professional organizations, professional learning opportunities, and continually seeks to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
 

 

Qualifications:

To be qualified for this position the employee must possess certification in the following:

1. Special Education- General Curriculum Consultative (P-12) Certification and

2. Elementary Education Certification or Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Science (P-5) Cognitive Level Certification

 

 

Work Calendar:

This position works 190 days.
